This easy puzzle can be used in games with themes where ropes (or chains) can be involved.
Three or four ropes with knots are hanging on a wall. Each rope has a different number of knots and the ends are different colors. (Alternatively, you can use chains and add locks to different links of each chain.)
Players count the number of knots and use the colors to open a colored lock. For example, the rope with the red end has five knots. The lock with 4 colors needs a combination. Using the rope you see that the red number on the lock should be 5.
Supplies Needed
- Ropes
- Paint for ends of ropes or you can use colored tape
- Something to hand the ropes on
Set-Up Instructions
- Tape the ends of the four ropes with colored tape (the four colors of your lock).
- Tie knots in the ropes. Make each one different. (Example: one rope has tape on the end that is red with 5 knots in it, another is green with 3 knots, another is yellow with 7 knots, another is blue with 6 knots)
- Hang the ropes up.
- Set the colored lock to 5376
- Leave a clue like, “I want to tell you how much I love the colors of the rainbow, but now is knot the time.”
Increasing the Difficulty
To make this more difficult you can hang the ropes in different places instead of right together.
